Manual awnings extend and retract with a hand crank - cheaper, no power needed, fewer parts to fault. Motorised awnings operate by remote or switch and suit wide spans (roughly 4m+) or anyone wanting one-touch convenience, but cost more and need a licensed electrician for new connections.
A light drizzle is fine for quality fabrics, but retract in sustained or heavy rain - water pooling stretches fabric and can warp the frame. Always retract before leaving home or overnight if rain is forecast.
